CHENNAI: A couple, who contested on the MDMK ticket in Mangadu municipality on the outskirts of Chennai, have been elected as ward councillors.
P Murugan, 47, has already been elected four times and he has been elected from ward 9 now. His wife, M Sumathi, who joined the MDMK recently, contested from ward 6. It was only a two-way contest between her and the candidate from the AIADMK.
"We feel elated by the victory," Sumathi told TOI.
Mangadu municipality has a total of 27 wards and is part of Kancheepuram district.
